Kennywood and King Dominion will be opening roller coaster in 2010. We will preview what to expect from each of these thrill rides.

The 2010 amusement park season is almost here and a lot of exciting new rides have been announced. We will be looking at the top new coasters for those who want to be tossed an turned every which-way possible.

The Sky Rocket at Kennywood Amusement Park

Kennywood, located in West Mifflin, PA, has a new roller coaster opening for the 2010 season. The Sky Rocket dimensions are 2,100 feet long, 95 feet high with a 90 degree drop on the first drop. The Sky Rocket has a top speed of 50 mph and will last for 65 seconds. The coaster uses the LSM launch technology that will enable the coaster to go from zero to 50 in three seconds.

According to the press release after the first drop the rest of the lay out of the ride will be: "the train races into an inverted top hat element, passes into a barrel roll and goes vertical again through a twist up leading to another pause. Riders experience a second vertical free fall followed by another maximum G-force pullout on the way into a highly banked fan curve. After a traditional corkscrew, a curve to a zero gravity hill, and a series of wave turns, riders finally return to the station". The new The Sky Rocket is due to be complete in May of 2010.

Intimidator 305

Kings Dominion, located in Doswell,VA , will be offering the biggest, fastest roller coaster of the 2010 season with the Intimidator 305. The ride is only the second Giga-coaster built in North America and will be one of the tallest and fastest coaster on the East Coast. The Intimidator 305 is the most expensive ride ever built at Kings Dominion with a $25 million price tag.

The dimensions of the ride will make your heart jump into your throat just reading them. It is 5,100 feet long with a height of 305 feet. The first drop will be 300 feet at a 85 degree angle and have speeds of over 90 mph. The ride is made up of six airtime humps, three high speed turns, and drops of 150 feet. The ride, which will debut Friday April 2, 2010, is inspired by Dale Earnhardt and will feature trains cars that looks like Dale Earnhardt’s signature black car.

A smaller version of this ride will be located at Carowinds located in both Charlotte, NC and Fort Mill, SC. The coaster will be 232 feet tall with seven drops. It is set to open on March 27, 2010.
